It is one of the three tracks of the two-year Master of Social Work (MSW) program at the Silberman School of Social Work at CUNY-Hunter College.
Key features of the OML Program:
- It is a two-year MSW program with a mission to train managers for nonprofit human services organizations and leaders in many other settings.
- Graduates are eligible to take the LMSW exam and become licensed social workers. They may also be eligible for the LCSW exam (if they meet its requirements on courses and clinical practice hours)—even though clinical practice is not the OML program’s focus.
- Typically, about 25-30 students are admitted per academic year (one class). Most applicants have at least two years’ experience in the human services field and are currently lower- to middle-level managers of nonprofit human services organizations.
- OML student body is very diverse, with over 70% being people of color. Usually, over half are self-identified as African Americans (see a cohort photo on the second page).
- Most OML students are OYR (one-year residence)—who works full-time in a human services agency while attending the program. OYR students use their full-time job and agency as a field placement.
- OML courses are scheduled to accommodate OYR students’ work schedules. Therefore, OML courses take place on one Saturday and one weekday evening per week.
- Tuition is much more affordable compared to comparable top social work programs in the city.
- Application deadline: February 15th (preferred) or April 15th (the latest).
