Shadow Count 2020: Make a Lasting Impact in Just One Night

The Silberman School of Social Work once again partnered this winter with the New York City Department of Homeless Services to carry out the 2020 HOPE and Shadow Count – an annual count of those across the five boroughs who are experiencing homelessness and are unsheltered. The count took place January 27th and 28th.

The Shadow Count deploys paid volunteers in pairs across the city on same night the HOPE street survey takes place. As participants are counted by HOPE survey takers, they create a baseline that ensures the accuracy of the HOPE count’s resulting number of unsheltered people experiencing homelessness, and the unmet need for services in NYC.
