New Faculty – Joshua Livingston

Joshua P.H. Livingston received his PhD in Social Welfare from the CUNY Graduate Center.  Using his experiences as a Licensed Master Barber and the Black American barbershop as an exemplar, Dr. Livingston’s work focuses on how social innovation and ‘placemaking’ can be utilized by young people of color to challenge institutional environments through the use of community forms that hold cultural significance.

Dr. Livingston holds an MSW and a Certificate in Human Services Management from Boston University and comes to Hunter with seventeen years of practice experience in youth-based program development, management and evaluation.

At the Silberman School of Social Work, Dr. Livingston is teaching a course in the Organizational Management and Leadership sequence on Social Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Enterprise.
